Unfortunately at some point, you may face termites in your home if you have not had a termite treatment. If you think your home has termites then it’s time to contact a professional. Although termites are beneficial in decomposing dead trees, they become damaging when your home is their target. It is important to have a treatment because termites can cause a lot of damage over time. A termite treatment can be costly upfront, but repairing damage down the road can be even more costly if the problem is not taken care of properly.
If you think you have termites it’s probably because you’ve found dead termite swarmers, pin holes in the wall, or maybe even wood damage inside your home. Termites swarm in the spring and are usually found in windowsills or around bathtubs. They likely came from an underground nest nearby. Swarmers have wings but they can fall off and sometimes they are mistaken for an ant. Have a professional confirm the insects are termites.
Now that you know a little more about termites here are the steps to take:
- It is better to have a treatment done sooner rather than later, but don’t panic
- Call us and we’ll set up an appointment to give you quote
- We will treat and offer a warranty
- If you continue the warranty we will do an inspection once a year around the warranty renewal time
After treatment reminders:
- Don’t leave wood next to your house (Fire wood, wooden stakes, etc)
- Any additions to your home in the future should be treated
- If any major changes to the landscaping are made, additional treatment may be necessary
- If you sell your home let us know. Typically you’ll need a Wood Destroying Insect Report for closing, and the new owners will be able to continue the warranty
